The Sheik Of Araby

Words by Harry B. Smith and Francis Wheeler

Music by Ted Snyder (1921).

Well I'm the sheik of Araby

Your love belongs to me

Well at night where you're asleep

Into your tent I'll creep

The stars that shine above

Will light our way to love

Ah you rule this world with me

the sheik of Araby

Well I'm the sheik of Araby

Your love belongs to me

Wow oh at night where you're asleep Into your tent I'll creep

Aha

The sun that shines above

Will light our way to love

You rule this world with me

I'm the sheik of Araby

Well I'm the sheik of Araby

Well I'm the sheik of Araby, yeah

Music and words by Sammy Cahn and James Van Heusen.

Tico Tico

Written by Zequinha Abreu, Aloysio Oliveira and Ervin Drake (1943).  Also called "Tico No Fuba."

Featured in the 1944 movie "Bathing Beauty" with Red Skelton and Esther Williams.  Esther Williams and Red Skelton star in this endearingly silly tale of two star-crossed lovers whose eventual reunion is not for a moment in doubt.  Bathing Beauty is also jam-packed with music, featuring the talents of Xavier Cugat and his orchestra and Harry James and his orchestra.

12th Street Rag

Written by Euday Bowman in 1914.

12th Street Rag, Euday Bowman's best known song,  was written to describe his experience in Kansas City, Kansas. The song was copyrighted in 1914 and originally contained a variation that could only have been executed by a pianist with three hands!  After rearranging a new version, he sold the copyright to to Jenkins Music Corp.  In 1942, he repurchased the copyright and watched the song catapult to popularity when it was recorded by Walter "Pee Wee" Hunt in 1948. Other songs written by Bowman including "Fort Worth Blues," were never published. Unfortunately, Bowman was not able to enjoy much of his music's success and died of pneumonia in 1949.
